Although details are limited, a May 13 post entitled 'We shot a movie once...' (aptly referring to the opening line of the track 'New Orleans is Sinking') on the band's site announced they will also be filming their June 25 sold-out concert in Bobcaygeon, Ontario, with portions of footage to be included in the as-yet-untitled documentary.
The group is also asking "the most diehard hip fans in the country" to submit a short video by May 20 to tell the band what the song 'Bobcaygeon' means to them, as well as why they'd like to be included in the film. Fans can send an email to the@thehip.com with "Bobcaygeon" in the subject line.
The band's Facebook post and comment section added some more information regarding the videos, stating "these videos will be going to the director to give him a feel of the fans," adding the unnamed director would be "traveling around visiting fans, interviewing them and perhaps bringing some of them to the show."
There's no word as to whether the documentary will be released in theaters or simply made available on DVD or in a live CD/DVD package. The band released a live 'That Night in Toronto' DVD in 2005 culled from a November 2004 concert at Toronto's Air Canada Centre.
Gord Downie and co. are currently working on a new studio album, but there's no word as to when it's expected to come out. The Tragically Hip released their last studio album, 'We Are the Same,' in 2009.
