U2 and Reeve Carney Perform 'Spider-Man' Song on 'American Idol' Finale

The season finale of 'American Idol' was about as over-the-top as one could expect. In addition to performances by Beyonce, Lady Gaga and, yes, Jack Black, U2's Bono and the Edge took the stage alongside 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' star Reeve Carney to perform 'Rise Above 1,' a song from the maligned musical.

The track has all the elements of a classic U2 song: soaring, plaintive vocals, echo-heavy guitars and an anthemic sound that'll make it perfect for sports-highlight montages. It will be the lead single from the upcoming album of music from the production, featuring 14 new songs from Bono and the Edge. The record will be out June 14 to coincide with the show's alleged opening date.

As for the 'Idol' performance that featured a stuntman doing flips all over the crowd, well, nobody was maimed or died, so that has to go in the win column for Carney and company. Check it out below.
