Kate Bush 'Working on a New Record'

Kate Bush has started work on a new album, the follow-up to 'Director's Cut,' which narrowly missed out on the UK No. 1 spot after failing to dislodge Adele on Sunday, May 22.

In an interview with Mark Radcliffe on BBC 6 Music, the 52-year-old songwriter said, "I'm working on a new record. It's all kinds of bits and pieces, really. All in different stages of work. There's always ideas buzzing around, but it's whether they actually end up materialising into a song. It's all quite an elusive process."

Despite having completed the writing for the new record, Bush admitted, "It might completely change in a few weeks."

Elsewhere in the interview, the singer revealed the most unlikely of inspirations: fertiliser. She explained, "I've put a packet of bone meal on my piano and it seems to be helping the sort of blossoming of the songs. I was en route to the garden and I happened to have a packet of bone meal and I just left it on the piano and it was there for a few days. Then I noticed that I'd actually written a couple of songs since it had been there, so I thought I'd just leave it there and see if it sped up the process a bit."

As for the likelihood of a tour any time soon, fans shouldn't hold their breath. Bush, who hasn't hit the road since the 'Tour of Life' in 1979, said, "People always presume I didn't enjoy that tour. I did enjoy it. I haven't got any plans to do any live shows whatsoever. I'm very much engrossed in trying to making new material. I'm extremely flattered that people are interested."
