During Barcelona's Primavera Sound festival on Saturday, May 28, Kurt Vile told Spinner how his excitement got the better of him during the Deerhunter set on Friday night, as he "kicked [guitarist] Lockett [Pundt] in the butt." Having arrived in Barcelona just a few hours earlier, Vile said: "I was feeling invincible, I almost feel bad but I wouldn't dare do it to Bradford [Cox]."
Vile was speaking to Spinner ahead of his own Primavera show that evening, which later showed he and the Violators were in fine fettle, in spite of a schedule which saw them go up against the mouthwatering proposition of Barcelona in the Champions League final.
The frontman also spoke about his plans for an as-yet-untitled follow-up to recent album, 'Smoke Ring for My Halo.' Talking about the creative process behind the LP, he told us: "We're going to release an EP in the fall as we had lots of material left over from the album." He also noted that his intention was to begin writing again in the spring, with recording to be scheduled late in 2012.
The Philadelphia artist seemed in excitable spirits for the duration of the festival, saying that he found it electrifying playing to larger crowds which strangely make him feel less intimidated. He may have been relieved that Deerhunter weren't waiting in the wings during his show for a revenge booting as he played a mix of new and old tracks, including 'Freeway' and 'Jesus Fever.'
