Rolling Stone, Maher addressed the "heavy hip-hop beat" that introduces his show: "That was written by one of my very best friends, the person who, in all those years when I was going to Freaknik, was my main drinking partner, Christopher 'Kid' Reid from Kid N' Play. He definitely still has his hip-hop chops, and I asked him to write the theme song, and I still love it..."
