In a recent interview with Q, the 23-year-old ranted about having to hand over 50 percent of her earnings to the tax man. She said (via Metro), "I'm mortified to have to pay 50 percent! [While] I use the NHS, I can't use public transport any more. Trains are always late, most state schools are s--- and I've gotta give you, like, four million quid -- are you having a laugh?"
She added, 'When I got my tax bill in from '19' [her debut album], I was ready to go and buy a gun and randomly open fire."
However, that attitude isn't sitting well online, with many taking to Twitter to voice their disgust.
Outroversion tweeted, "God that Adele pop singer is such a moron. Her comments on tax are both ignorant and self-aggrandising. I'm pretty sure it's just her way."
Wolfsbaine1 wrote, "People like Adele of the rubbish girly music p--- me off, her four million tax bill means she had eight, how much f---ing money do you need b----."
It fell to Nicklibertine to pinpoint why so many people have reacted to the singer's "woes." They tweeted, "Got my paycheque today. Looking at the amount I take home after tax and national insurance is just depressing. F--- you, Adele."

All the people saying our money goes to foreign aid should read more, before you start talking shite. too lazy to find out eh. That's why the politicians think we're all stupid.
June 21 2011 at 2:56 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe people complaining about Adele and the fact that by her comment they found out how much she made in that time period is all about the "new greed" the one where people who don't have it, think that people who EARN it, by a great idea that turns into a successful business or a great talent that they share and only make so much because of how many people loved it. "Oh, you have it, and I don't, so it doesn't matter what anyone takes from you." It's the new share the wealth attitude of those who dont have it, many of whom sit with their hand out while hard earned taxes pay their keep. Being ugly because someone didn't want to give up half of what they made is pure hateful jealousy. The fact that someone (a post I read) didn't have much on their paycheck has nothing to do with anyone who was a success. Not to mention total lack of class to have to say the F you to it. Its the opportunity we all have, and our children. Without that type of opportunity, there is no longer "the American dream". In America, the tax rate on higher levels is like 60%. But since so few people make that kind of money, it gets turned into "the rich pay only 1%" and the ignorant buy into it. We dont pay 1% of what we earn, we pay 1% of the TOTAL tax bill, when there are 300 million out there. How much are we supposed to pay for those who dont work? I am not talking about charity etc. I'm ALL for kindness and charity. But the much spread illusion that the rich pay 1% is a convenient thing they say that they hope the ignorant will not look into and realize its 1% of all taxes, but 60% of our earnings. That means we give more than half of what we have, to finance all the social programs out there, before we ever drop a dime into the Salvation Army pot. And its only greedy, lazy, and ignorant people who think that someone doesn't deserve to keep what they earn. I promise you, that if those same people where to win the lottery tomorrow and they suddenly were in that tax bracket, they would see it differently as their 5 million turned into 2 million instantly, AND that they would also suddenly see the "share the wealth" propaganda differently as well. We all have the right to choose who we want to give our charity money to, and in my case it is sure is not to the lazy person screaming they should have what the rich man has. How far do you think it would go if you did indeed take all the rich business men's money and spread it around? Then its a drop in the bucket and gone. As well as the jobs those men and women provided with their business. It leads to total poverty for all, with the opportunity to rise above it, gone. She earned it, and its no crime to resent someone reaching in and taking that much of it. Perhaps she wanted to decide where that money went, even if she gave it all away. Instead, it goes to continue more of the same. Its petty whining people who could make such a big deal out of it.
June 21 2011 at 1:54 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGood understanding Seabreezy, at least one person understands tax abuse. I don't know about the UK, but in the USA, it is an accepted fact, since the inception of the "temporary" income tax at WW2, that a mere 10 cents on the dollar of collected taxes, actually get distributed to legal entities and programs. The politicians have established a routine of absconding the rest for their own pockets. And they take half of every lottery winner when they collect the winnings. What a scam, I want some.. The lady worked hard and long, has a ton of bills to pay for, crew, lighting etc and every other cost associated with producing the best art I have ever watched/heard. All her labor for years, and hour after hour then she shares it with us for a poultry 20 bucks and some of these miserable lowlifes want to spew their bile on the extraordinarily multi-talented lady that gave the world her heart. I;m on her side buttheads, with this exception, I'm not polite......kiss my over taxed a$$

June 21 2011 at 1:08 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGod her voice is awful, it's like shattering class in a bathtub. She better be glad she's making the kind of money where she can hand over the kind of taxes she does. I don't imagine it will be long before she becomes yesterdays talentless celebrity du-jour.

June 21 2011 at 2:53 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe gun comment was stupid! But Who wants 50% taken out for taxes. We all are taxed too much. Our taxes aren't going for police, schools or anything to approve our lives. They are going for foreign aid and special interest.
We should all be thankful we have someone speaking out and we should jump on the tes bandwagon! We need to demand a say in where our taxes go!!!!
I am with Adell except for the opening gun fire...we need a real TeaParty with the focus on Taxes!
**** I agree with adele

You never said anything you regretted at 23. People who live in glass countries shouldn't throw rocks. What about your Queen Elizabeth? How much did her Grandson's wedding cost you louts? No one's going to complain about that happy moment huh? What about your greedy financiers, let alone your wig wearing politicos. What about Bono and his tax evasion? Huh? Get a grip and go after the people who really matter.
