Weezer Cover the Cars' 'You Might Think' for 'Cars 2' Soundtrack -- Song Premiere

Just in time for the summer blockbuster season, we can get a little taste of the soundtrack from the upcoming animated feature 'Cars 2,' which features a duet with Brad Paisley and Robbie Williams and a new recording from Weezer.

The pop-punk heroes were given the opportunity to cover Ric Ocasek and his band the Cars' huge hit 'You Might Think,' keeping true to the original with bubbly swaths of synths carrying through the verses coupled with Rivers Cuomo's youthfully geeky vocals layered over the top.

"The song is going to play in the scene where Lightning McQueen and Mater go to Japan," says Weezer's Brian Bell in a press release, "which is great for us because it sort of mirrors our experiences in Japan -- there was a little bit of culture shock."

Weezer's fascination with Japan has been a long time coming, with several allusions to the country on their album 'Pinkerton,' especially with the hilariously good non-sequitur lyrics of 'El Scorcho.'

"When we really dug deep into the song, we saw the genius of the arrangement and how all these relatively simplistic parts worked together to create this amazing fabric of sound," Bell continued.

The 'Cars 2' soundtrack, which you can pre-order here, will be released June 14 via Disney while the film will hit theaters June 24.

I like it sounds like the original version & got a 80's feel to it which I like alot kudos to Weezer they did great with the song so getting the sound track tomorrow :)

LOVE. I love the Cars. Weezer clearly love them as well, and pay glorious tribute in this note-for-note cover.

The non-Newman stuff on the first "Cars" soundtrack was brilliant. This is brilliant too. It's amazing what a cover can do to refresh a song.
