The first death occurred towards the start of the festival, which takes place annually in Manchester, Tenn., when friends discovered the dead body of a 32-year-old woman in the campgrounds. Officials have now confirmed that a second death took place shortly after the event's peak on Saturday night. The Associated Press reports that a 24-year-old male from Raleigh, N.C. was airlifted to a hospital in nearby Chattanooga, Tenn. where he died of hyperthermia early Sunday. The local sheriff's department is awaiting toxicology reports while an autopsy will also be performed on the 32-year-old woman.
"The safety of our patrons is our No. 1 concern," said Bonnaroo promoters in a statement. "And we our deeply saddened by this." While these are not the first deaths to take place at the massive festival, it is helpful to keep in mind that, with 80,000 fans in attendance, Bonnaroo is the size of a large town, after all.

Whatever, Phish did "IT" back in 2004 or so and there were 120,000 people there and nobody died. Not necessary.

It stayed around 99 degrees that weekend, with rain off and on. And there were simply too many people there. I saw 25 minutes of music, because we were in the the campground boondocks, and it was just so difficult to get to the stages. The best part of the experience was the breeze coming through the window of our newly-repaired vehicle as we left that cesspit.

But, I dont know why all those people, in the extreme heat, no shade, thousands of people all clumped to together--sounds like a nightmare to me. Its like a mob. People are soooo strange.

June 14 2011 at 7:50 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyHow many days was Woodstock? and how many died at Woodstock. And everybody knows there was drugs there. Soooo. what's the difference? People. You can call them beatnicks or hippies or whatever you want to call them, but they watched out for one another . This generation is only about themselves. P.S Jon, There is a god .
June 14 2011 at 7:37 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyfirst of all never hear of them, second you don't go mixing germs of 80,000 in the conditions they were in and the concert promoter should have had emt's patroling, then on another note you don't have to do all that to get hurt or die - when it's your time it's your time and Jon I feel bad for you because before you die you will realize there is a God and after you die you will know for sure! God bless all and I;m happen there were no more incidence than there were. My sympathy gotes out to the family of the deceased.

That many people at one event make the odds greater, someone will most likely, die. It's a shame but when it is your time, it's your time. Precautions should be made, of course. And the heat can do funny things to you. So, prepare to enjoy but drink water and watch out for one another.
June 14 2011 at 7:18 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyHyperthermia can be caused by things other than the weather. I don't remember which one, but one of the illegal drugs that's popular, has hyperthermia as a side effect of using it. NOT saying they were drug users. Just that hyperthermia has more than one cause. IF either one had a pre-exisiting condition like Diabetes or a congenital heart defect (and some people have these without knowing), excess heat can become deadly. This applies especially to the very young & the very old. "Old" frequently is more an assessment of someone's overall health, than age any more. I've seen "young" people, who've had diabetes since they were 5 yrs old, who have cataracts, heart disease, kidney disease, arthritis, joint replacements, strokes. It was a lot harder to control diabetes 30-40 yrs ago- We didn't have portable glucose monitors, insulin pumps, and new kinds of insulin.
