Grouplove Announce Debut Album, 'Never Trust a Happy Song' -- Exclusive Video

After making waves with their self-titled debut EP, opening for Florence and the Machine and heading up the NME Radar Tour in the UK, Grouplove are finally ready to drop their first full-length. Titled 'Never Trust a Happy Song,' the quintet's album will be released in the US on Sept. 13 via Canvasback Music/Atlantic.

In an exclusive video, conducted by Gurj Bassi for Spinner, the band explains how the LP title came from a comment by hirsute bassist Sean "Seanimal" Gadd. "I think we all wrote kind of a happy song, and we were like, 'This is great. This is so much fun,'" keyboardist Hannah Hooper says, "and Sean was like, 'Never trust a happy song.'"

As frontman Christian Zucconi tells it, the full-length will feature Grouplove's trademark melodies and vocals, but with some left turns. "There's a lot of upbeat, kind of really cool, happy, cathartic songs, and there's also a twist on some stuff we haven't done before like some electronic stuff going on and a darker song Hannah brings to the table," he says. "Lyrically, it's still kind of in the same palette as the EP where it is this kind of darker thing amidst this happier, upbeat stuff. There's definitely some surprises thrown in the mix."
