Though absent from pop culture for some time -- at least as absent as one could be when 'Constant Craving' is still constantly played on radio -- she recently returned with 'Sing It Loud,' an album that easily stands up amongst her best.
Before lang set off on her just-launched North American tour, Spinner sat down with the singer to talk about the benefits of being a gay country singer, her "low-impact, long career" plan and how winning a Grammy made her feel "like God."

She should write her own music. I hate that she rode on Cohen's coat tails like she tried to do with Orbison's "Crying".
Nobody, but nobody sings Halleluiah like Cohen, who wrote the song.

I loved her in those first vids, when she was the cowgirl in the silly looking dress. I love her even more now that she is who she is. A coupla weeks ago we had a trans-gendre person in all our fifth grade classes, doing an anti-bullying presentation. Half way through, the very dynamic guy confided that he had previosly been a girl. I watched carefully, and could not see a girl. It was clear that he was a guy who had been born in the wrong body. We had a few complaints from parents who confused trans-gendre with transvestites. Fortunately, our School Board is very supportive. understanding human sexuality is not an optional aspect, it is a required part of the curriculum. I love living in Halifax, Nova Scotia
