Against Me!'s Pro-Choice Anti-Church Calls Go Unheeded -- Exclusive Video

It's been a year since Against Me! released their fifth album, 'White Crosses,' the title track of which is about the anti-abortion crucifixes displayed on a Florida church's lawn. Even though Tom Gabel sang about smashing them all, the frontman hasn't been targeted by any angry right-wing mob.

"I kind of think that song went over their heads," Gabel tells Spinner. "The song is about St. Augustine, Fla., where I live, and there's a church in particular, and once a year they put up 4,000 white crosses and it's called the 'Cemetery of Innocence' or something dramatic like that. It's a pro-life monument. So far, no one's taken up the call to smash the crosses. I unfortunately can't do it myself. I'd be probably be pretty obvious to finger for that."

Although that's a disappointment for Gabel, he's still got plenty to be happy about. The band recently released 'Russian Spies,' their first single with new drummer Jay Weinberg, and 'Total Clarity,' a collection of demos and outtakes from the sessions to their 2005 album, 'Searching for a Former Clarity.' On top of that, Against Me! will be on the Warped Tour this summer before playing several dates with Blink-182 and Gabel's heroes, Rancid.
