About the Band: Soul music lovers and crate diggers eagerly awaited the June 21 release of 'Got To Get Back!' on Electraphonic Recordings from Memphis soul music standard bearers the Bo-Keys, their first in seven years. New converts to the genre via Sharon Jones and others will embrace it upon first listen. Powerhouse guest vocalists join the band, including Stax Records hit-maker William Bell, soul/gospel great Otis Clay, classic Atlantic Records singer Percy Wiggins, and blues legend Charlie Musselwhite, who also blows some of his signature harmonica.

Trumpeter Ben Cauley was the sole survivor of the plane crash that took the lives of Otis Redding and four members of the Bar-Kays, the singer's backing band. Cauley still has nightmares about regaining consciousness in the cold water of the Wisconsin lake where the plane went down. Was he afraid to fly after the accident? "No, no," says the Memphis musician. "Matter of fact, I flew back home after the crash."

After the plane crash, Cauley played for a few years with the reformed Bar-Kays but quit in 1971 to concentrate on raising his family. For years, he worked as a session musician, recording with Hayes, Al Green and many more of the city's greats.

Otis Redding was a great singer of his type music. If he had lived he would be right up there with all the greats. nobody that didn't recoginize Otis as a great simply doesnt know the old great soul music. Live on Otis, as a professional musician making a living at it for over 20 years i know soul music because i lived it, and i felt Ots Reddings songs. get it man you have to feel music to get it real. Otis Redding was a giant.The doc song altho simple is real man.

otis redding was no great entertainer. his only hit song, sittin on the dock, became a hit after he was killed Only because the radio stations played it repeatedly till it caught on. Any song played over and over becomes popular with kids. They say had he not been killed that song would have petered out because it wasn't good. he was a 1 hit wonder and stole the other songs

I don't think the Stones ever did Respect but Otis did a version of Satisfaction that Mick Jagger copyed when they did the song live.

FYI dkrei3s what an idiot you r get your facts before u open your mouth learn more about what these singers went through to get where they were Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Carla Thomas, ect. and believe me there were plenty more they had it ruff back thenand if they weren't held back, back then they would have been more popular, read up on Sam Cooke he was the smartest one he OWNED ALL his music out rite even though music companys tryed there damndest to take control of his company EVERYTHING he wrote for himself and others he controled this is why we believe he was set up & murdered 3 months after his death Sam's wife married Bobby Bland another singer but he never achived the stardom that Sam and others had so next time know what the heck your talking about it's all there for u to read takethe time to read it and i bet you'll wonder why they are just now looking into the MURDER of Sam Cooke after some 48 years later makes u wonder????????????
