Lip-Sync Music Videos: Readers' Edition
- Posted on Jun 22nd 2011 2:00PM by Marina Galperina
Since we published our Lip-Sync Videos: 11 Best Fake-Singing Music Videos Featuring Celebs and Kids countdown, we've got some great suggestions from our readers. Without further ado, here's a mini round-up of five more killer lip-sync videos.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' video for 2006's 'Cheated Hearts' features lots of bowl-cut headbanging and sequined rump-shaking. After all, it's a compilation of YYY fans' rowdiest, friskiest impersonations of the band recorded via webcams from all over the world. Hat tip to reader Kelso Horror of reminding us of this infectious montage of doppelgangers!
"None of these videos come close to matching the number of celebs Johnny enlisted to be in his video," reader steffiavl assures us. The 2006 clip came out three years after the music legend's death, so it was director Tony Kaye who recruited Iggy Pop, Kanye West, Patti Smith, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Johnny Depp and many more to pay tribute to Johnny Cash with a lip-sync-along to the traditional folk tune.
Another music video jam-packed with celebrity cameos is Moby's 'We Are All Made of Stars' -- a '2001: A Space Odyssey'-inspired journey through Hollywood's picturesque cliches and its social fixtures: Actress Thora Birch at a party about to go mischievous, mustachioed porn icon Ron Jeremy making photo copies and plasticine billboard sensation Angelyne in her pink Corvette, all lip-syncing. Moby safely navigates it in a cosmonaut suit. Far out! Thanks for the suggestion, reader Wendy Mclean!
You guys demanded this one in overwhelming numbers. The '80s 'Saturday Night Live' skit-style gem featured Chevy Chase interrupting Paul Simon repeatedly by emphatically miming out his song 'You Can Call Me Al.' No worries, njdreamgirl2006. You're not "too old" for enjoying this. Their synchronized, trumpet-waving dance steps are just that damn classic.
OK. We're totally breaking the rules here. These were meant to be strictly music videos, not film scenes, but we just can't help but give in to Jon Cryer's dramatic lip-syncing, comedic hip-thrusting and endearing emoting as 'Pretty in Pink' character Duckie, as reminded by fellow '80s teen-movie enthusiast and Spinner reader dwtaives. Watch him try to woo Molly Ringwald with his rapturous take on Otis Redding's 'Try a Little Tenderness' and see if you don't get a little charmed!
