Speaking to Radio 1's Zane Lowe (via BBC Newbeat), Flowers said, "When something's good and we feel like it's going to be a keeper, we put it up on a board and we have four or five up there right now."
After a slow start to work on the follow-up to 2008's 'Day & Age,' the frontman says they've now "found a groove."
He explained, "We've had a few breakthroughs and so it's exciting to have those moments again and to reminisce about great moments that we've had together. It's nice, the idea of putting something new out again."
Flowers also revealed that working on his solo album 'Flamingo' has given him an new outlook when it comes to writing songs. "I really want to tell stories that connect with people and I'm really trying to zone in. I felt like I really connected with something on Flamingo with the stories. I think I was more cohesive and they were more fully realised. So hopefully I'm getting better and that's really what I'm going for."
For the time being however, Flowers is focused on the band's show at London's Hyde Park on Friday, June 24. Although he's a seasoned performer, he still experiences a raft of emotions before hitting the stage. He said, "Once that first song is out of the way and you realise they're actually there because they like you, that's when I really start to enjoy myself. I'm thankful I haven't got used to it yet."
