Associated Press reports that guitarist Robby Krieger and keyboardist Ray Manzarek held a vigil at the late singer's grave at Pere Lachaise cemetery where, joined by fans, they lit candles and laid flowers. Some fans were reported to wearing t-shirts bearing the words "40th Anniversary".
Morrison was found dead in a bathtub in an apartment in the French capital in July 1971, though the exact details of his death remain shrouded in mystery. No autopsy was carried out and reports vary as to the precise cause of his death.
Some have claimed Morrison died of a heart attack while other theories have included a heroin overdose. Some fans believe that Morrison faked his own death in order to escape the pressures of fame.
In addition to Morrison's ongoing mystique with subsequent generations, the Doors were responsible for creating some of the late 60s most memorable and enduring music, including the hits 'Light My Fire' and 'Hello, I Love You'.

Jim’s writing and lyrics have been with me since I was a teenager and influenced by own art. I drew a very surreal portrait of him for the 40th anniversary of his passing on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/07/celebration-of-lizard-king-jim-morrison.html Drop by and visit Jimbo AND his Shaman!
