Rush Revisit Stanley Cup Final With Gorilla-Chicken Showdown at Vancouver Concert

Although the Vancouver riots following the Stanley Cup Finals last month cast a long, dark shadow over the city, Rush managed to make light of the situation during their June 30 concert at Vancouver's Rogers Arena. Well, at least regarding the outcome of the Stanley Cup.

The band were nearing the conclusion of their lengthy performance playing their classic '2112: Overture/Temples of Syrinx' when a person dressed as a chicken and wearing a Boston Bruins jersey appeared to the left of bassist Geddy Lee and started to stroll around. Seconds later, a gorilla sporting a Vancouver Canucks jersey appeared on guitarist Alex Lifeson's side of the stage, and proceeded to chase down the chicken and assault it repeatedly with an aluminum bat. The gorilla -- whose uniform sported 'C' for captain -- then kicked the chicken a few more times before victoriously placing his foot on top of his feathered adversary as the crowd cheered loudly.

A few YouTube clips of the spectacle have been posted from various angles with Rush performing as if nothing was going on.

Rush wrapped up their 2011 North American tour with a show in Seattle earlier this week, and have no other tour dates confirmed. However, RushIsABand.com, a dedicated fan site, reports the band will be releasing a live DVD entitled 'Time Machine' on Sept. 27. The DVD was apparently recorded during the group's April 15 performance in Cleveland. There's no word if a live CD will also be part of the package, nor is there any news on the condition of that battered Boston chicken.
