Dexy's Midnight Runners to Release New Album in 2012

Dexy's Midnight Runners have confirmed that work has begun on a new album. In addition to abbreviating their name to Dexy's, the new album marks the first batch of original material since their 1985 album, 'Don't Stand Me Down.'

According to the band's newly opened Twitter account, Dexy's consists of singer Kevin Rowland, ex-Style Council keyboardist Mick Talbot, original bassist Pete Williams and guitarist Neil Hubbard.

Speaking of Talbot's inclusion in the line-up, Rowland tweeted: "Mick Talbot is a huge part of this, not just his playing, he's influential in the whole of this process. Commitment beyond the call of duty."

Though the impetus for the reunion remains vague, the band are thus far pleased with the results of their sessions. Another post reads: "Dexys new album. Can't really say why, because it's hard to put down to any one thing, but it's working -- it's early days, but so far so good."

Dexy's Midnight Runners scored two floor-filling UK No. 1s in the 80s -- 'Geno' and 'Come on Eileen.' They split in 1985 after the release of their third album.

The new, as-yet-untitled album is expected to see the light of day some time in 2012. Fans who can't wait that long will be delighted to learn that mainman Kevin Rowland will be playing a rare DJ set at London's legendary indie-pop night 'How Does It Feel To Be Loved' on Saturday, July 16. The occasion marks the third time Rowland has manned the decks at the long-running club night and his previous outings there have seen him singing along with his selections.
