Rolling Stones Plan Possible Hyde Park 50th Anniversary Concert

However, guitarist Ronnie Wood -- who just celebrated 16 months of sobriety -- tells the Evening Standard that the band are planning something for their 50th anniversary next year.
"We'll try to recapture the old camaraderie," Wood says, adding that a series of gigs is being planned with the possibility of London's Hyde Park being a location (the site of the band's famous 1969 Hyde Park concert, the Stones first following the death of guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones and the first with guitarist Mick Taylor).
"I know Keith is fully supportive, as are the rest of the boys in the Stones," Wood says. "We'll see what we can do as a unit. Playing Hyde Park would be fabulous."
The Stones haven't performed since a string of dates at London's O2 Arena which concluded their 'A Bigger Bang' world tour in August 2007. Given the age of the band -- with Watts having turned 70 last month -- a full-scale tour similar to previous outings would be considered somewhat unlikely.
In related band news, a collection of previously unpublished images from a 1970 photo shoot will be unveiled tomorrow at London's Snap Galleries. According to The Independent, the exhibit titled 'Sticky Fingers: The Lost Session' consists of photos shot by Peter Webb which were originally pitched for the cover of their 1971 album. The photos were thought to be lost but, remarkably, negatives were discovered two years ago in an unmarked box in an attic.

September 04 2011 at 8:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAbsolutely the BEST band of all time!!!! I was happily the person to catch a Charlie Watts drumstick thrown into the crowd in Cleveland and my husband shook Keith Richards hand....I know it probably sounds silly or pathetic to some, but it was and still is one of the most memorable moments in our lives. If you are Stones lovers, you probably can relate. They are SUPERSTARS and we will never see the likes of them ever again. Favorite song of all time that I fortunately saw them perform live...'Sympathy for the Devil' . Keith swirling and spinning with his guitar over an archway above the stage....at the ripe old age of hmmm...about 62??? YEAH, they have more gigs left in them. Come back to Cleveland or whereever.... One More Time! or a few More!

July 16 2011 at 8:51 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyThat old video is probably one of the best insights into the early Stones. Mick drinking from a bottle and listening to "Wild Horses" and getting all melancholy at the great poetry of the song; resting his head in his arms.
Charlie Watts staring off into the distance with a kind of restive look on his mug.
Ron Wood singing along with it.
It's just a masterpiece!!
They're all stoned to the ******* rafters, feeling the fantastic music they have made, deep, deep in their souls and hearts.
I would love to see that concert in Hyde Park.
I've seen the Stones five times, starting at the Tangerine Bown in Orlando in, I think, 1980, and again in Orlando sometime later and once in Jacksonville and twice in Atlanta.
I've a picture of Keith Richards looking down on me as I write this, right next to my Atlanta Braves 1993 National League West Championship banner that I copped from Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in 1995
I think that the Stones are the worlds best rock 'n' roll band of all time.
I was in the Army Security Agency on the island of Okinawa from 1963 until 1967. The first time I ever heard the song "Satisfaction", it was at the NCO club at Torii Station. It was being performed by a band made up of four or five Okinawans who could just barely communicate in English though who were a pretty good band with a lead, rhythm, and bass guitar, a drummer, and a guy who played the sax.
I loved the song and didn't know who wrote it or sang it or where these Okinawans could possibly come up with a song like that.
Then I came home and learned.
I personally think that "Brown Sugar" is the greatest rock 'n' roll song that was ever written and performed by anyone.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
My grandkids always want to hear the Stones when they visit.
I'm such a good grampa that I usually give in.
Peace and other good **** on all of you.
cum grano salis
Wood was not even with the band yet, dude. That is Keith Richards--remember him--mouthing the lyrics. Wood replaced Mick Taylor, who is seen in this clip. The most annoying thing about the clip is that AOL labels it as the Stones performing Wild Horses----of course, turns out it's the Stones listening to the Stones' recording of Wild Horses.
