Back in 2007, when her album 'Back to Black' was No. 1 on the UK charts, she visited Spinner's studio to record stripped-down versions of what would become her biggest hits. Accompanied only by Dap-Kings guitarist Binky Griptite, this taping marked Winehouse's first performance in the US. Another meteor burned out at 27. It's incredibly sad that we lose so many in their youth, but it would have meant a bleaker life for us ordinary people if we didn't ever get to witness and enjoy the amazing talents of those fragile young artists. Life is tough enough and not everyone is meant to live to a "ripe old age". Getting old wasn't designed for the spiritually weak. Janis, Jim, Jimmy, Amy and the rest got to share something amazing before they left. I'm grateful for that.
