Katy Perry: Amy Winehouse's Death Makes Me Appreciate Russell Brand More

Since Amy's sudden, and as yet unexplained, death on Saturday (July 23), stars have been speaking out about their admiration for the lost talent -- from M.I.A.'s song dedication, to Adele's heartfelt statement, and countless other messages of condolences and praise for Winehouse, whose long-time battles with drugs and alcohol addiction were well known.
But, Katy Perry admits the news hit her particularly hard, because it made her realize that her comedian/actor husband Brand could have fallen victim to an early and tragic death, just as Amy did, had he not managed to overcome his own addictions to drugs and alcohol.
During an appearance on 'Good Morning America' today (July 25) the somber singer said, "My heart felt really sad. My husband, who's been clean and sober for almost nine years, you know, I see him working [on)] a [sobriety] program and working on himself every single day and I see how much work it takes to be clean and sober when you have addiction on your hands."
Katy continued, "So it gave me a real gratefulness for my husband, who got clean when he was 27. And I just feel sad and I hope she finds peace."
Brand issued a statement of his own, in which he said, "When you love someone who suffers from the disease of addiction you await the phone call. There will be a phone call. The sincere hope is that the call will be from the addict themselves, telling you they've had enough, that they're ready to stop, ready to try something new. Of course though, you fear the other call, the sad nocturnal chime from a friend or relative telling you it's too late, she's gone." Read the rest of Brand's lengthy letter here.

Drug Abuse gets you this. TOO Late to feel Sorry!

I don't know her music, but I've seen her in magazines and on the news. It's another tragic story of abusing drugs and alcohol to be able to cope with life's issues, but in a very destructive way. I'm sure her family is greiving, and her fans will miss her. Hopefully she is at peace with God and the angels.
