'The Book of Morris Johnson' features anthemic hand claps, island-hopping lazy-day ukulele and Zee Avi's incredibly easy alto vocals. The song's accompanying video is a whimsical jungle-themed dream, complete with a dance trio and a sea of neon that Avi coasts slowly along in a canopied boat.
"'The Book of Morris Johnson' is more of a philosophical view on how we choose to see any given situation. The animals in the song paint a brighter, more colorful way of perceptions we usually take for granted," Avi tells Spinner. "[Director] Aran Reo Mann couldn't have been a more perfect fit to help bring this song to life. The video captures every lively line to a visual celebration, which is what the essence of the song is."
Zee Avi's upcoming album 'Ghostbird' will be released Aug. 30, via Brushfire.
