The news was revealed officially in an Alternative Press interview Tuesday (Aug. 9), confirming growing speculation that MacNeil was on board to replace Frank Carter who left the group earlier in the year. MacNeil had made a trek to London, England, late last month when the Gallows were rehearsing.
"After the boys decided they were going to keep going, my name kind of popped up, and they all thought it made sense," MacNeil said in the article. "It didn't overcomplicate itself. I talked to Steph [Carter, guitarist], and I said I was definitely interested. He pretty much said, "OK, let's do it," and I got on a plane and we're writing right now.
MacNeil -- who spent the flight over to London listening to Gallows' first two studio albums -- also said that the group started working on some new tracks including a "brutal" 35-second tune described as the heaviest thing Gallows have done.
In initial discussions, MacNeil told the Gallows band members, "I think this is something I can do and something I really want to do, but I'm not interested in coming on and replacing anybody."
The new revamped Gallows will be making their North American debut in October as part of the AP Tour which kicks off Oct. 13 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. With MacNeil now squared away with his new project and Dallas relieved to see his load lightened, the spotlight is on Alexisonfire's three other members. Keep your eyes peeled for more announcements.
