"We have been hard at work searching out and booking the best new music out there all the while listening to what the festival fans want," organizers said on the fest website, which also listed other performers like Titus Andronicus, Murder by Death, Chad VanGaalen, Plants and Animals, Dan Mangan and Timber Timbre. "While this announcement is a large portion of our festival headliners we still have a few rather large tricks up our sleeves that will blow your minds even further."
"Large tricks." Hmmm, let the speculation begin! And, apparently, the geography lesson.
"We're excited to be finishing our tour in the land of 'Anne of Green Gables,'" the Pains of Being Pure at Heart tweeted Aug. 8.
Festival organizers replied to the tweet, correcting the New York band's geography. "Close but that's PEI and we are in NS. Close enough," they wrote, with the band responding, "Ha! Until there's a Prince Edward Island Rock Festival (is there?) this is the closest we'll get!"
Organizers even offered to go the extra mile by saying if the band had time to "hang out for a few days" they'd take them on the three-hour drive to Prince Edward Island for a visit. But judging from the action-packed Canadian festival, there's no need to venture beyond Halifax.
Expect more lineup additions in the coming weeks to the annual event which started in 1993 and this year features 150 bands playing 20 venues around Halifax. Get hyped on Halifax Pop Explosion by watching the trailer below.
