Halloween, Alaska, 'Empire Waist' -- Video of the Day
Video: 'Empire Waist'
Highlight: "The song is grounded in the basic principle that everyone breaks somebody's heart at one point or another, whether they mean to do it or not," frontman James Diers tells Spinner. "No one likes to think of themselves as the bad guy in a relationship, but everybody eventually fills that role. The director, Max Becker, took that idea and compressed it into this gorgeous series of moments and vignettes with each character taking a turn on either side of that equation. It's kind of a cyclical thing -- not exactly like karma, more of an admission that there's some inherent cruelty or ambivalence in the recurring thrill of loving somebody."
