Croker was a longtime resident of Lake Charles, La., where he played lead guitar for the Ramblers, founded in 1933 by fiddle player Luderin Darbone and accordionist Edwin Duhon.
According to the band's website, Croker employed an electric style to the band's more bayou background, which added a "swaggering honky-tonk tinge" that swayed the band from blues to swampy rockabilly. The Hackberry Ramblers have performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival every year since 1988 and Croker's presence will be sorely missed.
Croker is survived by his wife Nell, five children, four stepchildren and many grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1PM on Thursday (Aug. 25) at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.

My condolences and prayers to the Croker family. RIP James! I did not know him, but, being into Cajun music for over 30 years, I was very familiar with the Hackberry Ramblers. For those not familiar, the Hackberry Ramblers have been a mainstay in Cajun music for years. Cajun music has a lot to offer for those who will give it a chance. It is some of the most enjoyable music there is. :-)

I'm pretty universal in my choices of music. I like everything from Donna Summer and Yahnni to Dolly Parton and garth Brooks but, I've never heard of this man. And he won a Grammy ??? Huh !
