Adrian Grenier Kicks Off TIFF With Sam Roberts Band, Stars and Hot Hot Heat

It was a typical evening at kickoff of the Toronto International Film Festival Wednesday, Sept. 7. In a secluded basement with a capacity of just 100 souls, fashionably dressed locals gathered to catch a glimpse of Hollywood -- and support a good cause. Adrian Grenier, star of the soon-to-wrap 'Entourage,' was supposedly on hand to host the War Child fundraiser event, which also featured the sound of Canadian indie rock supergroup Tommy Youngsteen -- a collection of members of Sam Roberts Band, Stars and Hot Hot Heat doing covers of Tom Petty, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen.

However, as the tiny space neared capacity and the band teased their instruments into working order, the surprisingly built Grenier -- in town to promote a screening of his year-old film, 'Teenage Paparazzo'-- did little to earn his hosting title, standing alone in the back while gawkers casually stared, waiting for him to make his way to the front.

By the time the group got to the Petty song sequence that signified the first third of their set, Grenier -- who also plays drums in the Honey Brothers and fronts Kid Friendly -- had made his way forward into the crowd, which was about all the action onlookers would get from the actor. Not even the lure of 'American Girl' could keep the evening's celebrity guest interested as he split after no more than four songs.
