In His Words: "'Northern Mentality' is about letting things run their course; specifically, it's about having this stoic detachment from things like life and death, and how that maybe relates to having grown up in a small town by the sea. I wanted the whole thing to have this "Northern" attitude and aesthetic -- utilitarian, unadorned and concise, while belying some emotion. The whole song is built on really simple elements, and I think it most accurately represents what I was trying to achieve with the album as a whole."
