George Harrison Through the Years: 'In the Material World' Doc Released Today

Legendary director Martin Scorsese's epic, three-hour film about the so-called "quiet" Beatle premieres today and tomorrow on HBO, split into two parts. Weaving together rare and unreleased photographs and video footage carefully archived by Harrison's widow Olivia, project 'George Harrison: Living in the Material World' creates an intense, intimate, thorough portrait of the man within and beyond the band, an individual in constant flux and in search of spiritual enlightenment.

"People say I'm the Beatle who changed the most, but really that's what I see life is about," Harrison says in the documentary trailer (included below). "You have to change," he adds. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, George Martin, Phil Spector, Terry Gilliam, Jackie Stewart and many more pitch in to add their memories and shared experiences to the documentary, clueing the viewer in on George's travels to India; his temporary, spiritually-motivated drug use; his collaboration with "people who were good at something, and his conflict between "the material world" of Fab Four fame, and the spiritual world he was so focused on until he lost his battle with cancer, 10 years ago.
