Morrissey Resurrects NME Libel Lawsuit Over Racist Portrayal

It seem's pretty safe to say that Morrissey is a bad self-editor. The former Smiths frontman's loose brain-to-mouth filter is constantly landing the singer in press headlines for insensitive comments. Recently however, Morrissey is claiming it was the editorial shortcomings of others that is getting him into trouble and is pushing a libel suit against NME.

The lawsuit, which was filed in 2007, relates to a dispute from that year in which Moz was quoted as complaining about an "immigrant explosion" leading to a dilution of the British identity. The singer claims NME's then-editor Conor McNicholas had altered the piece to make the singer's comments seem more offensive and that "question marks over my being a racist have never since receded."

A High Court judge is expected to decide whether the libel suit will proceed to a full trial. The defense claims that Morrissey's personal reputation can't have been damaged too much as it has taken him several years to file a claim. Perhaps some people never forget.
