Amy Winehouse Cause of Death Revealed as Extreme Alcohol Poisoning

After initial autopsy results proved inconclusive, a coroner has determined that Amy Winehouse died from consuming an extreme amount of alcohol.

The official ruling by coroner Suzanne Greenaway is "death by misadventure," and according to test results, the 27-year-old singer died with a blood alcohol level more than five times the drunk-drive limit.

Winehouse was discovered in bed at her London home on July 23. The singer had struggled for years with substance abuse, and while there were no illegal drugs found in her system, police detective Les Newman said there were numerous empty vodka bottles discovered in her room.

According to Winehouse's doctor, Dr. Christina Romete, the embattled star had resumed drinking in the days before her death, falling off the wagon after a period of sobriety. Romete also saw Winehouse the night before her death, and revealed the singer was "tipsy but calm." Last month, the 'Rehab' hitmaker's father, Mitch, had speculated that she died from alcohol withdrawal and possibly overdosed on Librium, a drug used to treat her addiction.

While Romete confirmed that Winehouse had been taking Librium, the coroner's report suggests the drug played no role in the singer's death.

"The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time," said Chris Goodman, a spokesman for the Winehouse family.

When I was a teenager (back in the day), if you had asked me what drugs were I would have said, "Aspirins." So many young people today are overdosing on one thing or another and it is just so sad. Amy Winehouse was a young woman - too young to die this way.

I think that the way we view ourselves and our attitudes toward how we treat our bodies goes way beyond just choosing to be happy, sad, frustrated, etc. In my youth I was taught that I was divinely created and that there was something called, 'sin'. I wonder if young people are hearing that word any more. I was also taught that sin had consequences.

I believe that all people, but especially the young need a spiritual compass. Life is about so much more than talent, fame, and money.

I am an Alcohol and Drug Psychotherapist, and I would like to send out the message that Alcohol and Illegal Drugs (Cannabis, Cocaine, Heroin, etc.) DO NOT solve problems, they simply increase them. People just have to learn to be HAPPY, SAD, FRUSTRATED, ANGRY, ECSTATIC WITHOUT ALCOHOL OR DRUGS!

Interesting. "Born into as North London Jewish Family........"

If her parents were Christian, would that have been mentioned?

Why is the "F" in family capitalized?

Is it really news that a self-indulgent drunk killed herself by drinking?

"tipsy but calm" said her doctor ? Insignificant amount of Librium in her system ? 5 times the legal drunk drive amount ? How much is that precisely ? How much vodka is she alledged to have drunk ?Dr Romete saw her " the night before her death " does that mean 24 hours preceeding or just a few hours prior to her becoming deceased?Where did Dr Romete " examine" her ? In her room? Was there a noticeable accumulation of vodka bottles at that point in time ? Was Dr Romete the prescribing physician for the Librium? "tipsy but calm " Good luck doc maybe you and conrad murray will become pen pals
