Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard Separate After Two Years of Marriage

A day after the world learned of the totally inevitable Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries divorce and carried on with nary a tear shed, we've heard news of a split that actually might upset some indie rock fans.

Yes, Zooey Deschanel and her husband of just over two years, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, are separated, Us Weekly reports. "It was mutual and amicable," a source told the gossip magazine. "There was no third party involved."

Deschanel, who's currently starring in Fox's 'New Girl' sitcom and just released a Christmas album with She and Him, her musical project with M. Ward, married Gibbard in September 2009.

"Zooey is really great at many things musically," Gibbard told Spinner in May. "One thing that I've certainly learned from her is that she has an amazing sense of harmony. She's really great at layering vocals and it's something that I've watched her do and have been very inspired by. And also she has a really amazing mind for chord structure and arrangements. It's not so much that I will write a song and play it for her and have her give me notes, it's more that I watch watch her process and glean little things from it that I like."

At least we still have Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore. For now.
