George Rountree, Bandleader of the Four Tops, Dead at 61
- Posted on Nov 2nd 2011 11:33AM by Theo Spielberg
Though not a performing member of the famed vocal quartet, Rountree was a lynchpin behind-the-scenes associate and performed a host of roles including musical director, arranger, composer, trumpeter and keyboardist. Rountree, also known as Tree, was born in Detroit, the home of Motown, and performed with such luminaries as the Temptations, Gladys Knight, Frankie Valli, Bill Withers and Martha Reeves.
Rountree served as the group's musical director for over 30 years, and had lived and performed in Las Vegas since 2000. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Paris Rountree, and his son George Rountree III.

Tree was in the background, not taking away from his many skills and talents. I went to very many of THE FOUR TOPS concerts in the 60's. I had never heard of Tree up until now. He still made his money. Rest in peace, Tree.
