"I think we're quite boring to write about," bassist Ed Nash tells Spinner. "We're all pretty normal people."
The band -- pegged as the youngsters on the scene when they first came out two years ago with their debut, 'I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose' -- see the media zeroing in on humdrum band details as proof there's nothing terribly sensational about them.
"Everyone needs an angle," Nash explains. "It's usually our age or our band name."
Or, in this case, dissing an artist whose song they recently covered.
Bombay Bicycle Club tackled 'Video Games,' a song by Lana Del Rey, an up-and-coming artist who's garnered quite a bit of media attention herself. Nash admits, though, he actually isn't a fan of the New York singer.
"I don't really like Lana Del Rey," he says. So why cover her dreamy single for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge last month? "That is one of the best pop songs released in the past couple of years," admits Nash, who sounds like he might still be won over by Del Rey.
Bombay Bicycle Club are currently touring behind their latest record, 'A Different Kind of Fix.' "I guess this is our third record," says Nash, who seems tempted to gloss over 2010's 'Flaws,' which was a collection of acoustic tracks the band initially didn't plan to release. "This record is taking off of where we left off on our first record."
"I think we're getting there -- maybe with a couple more albums," says Nash. "We're still a ways away from having our own sound. We're just probably borrowing from other people's sounds, like a hybrid."
