Born in Nashville, True -- real name Andrea Marie Truden -- moved to New York City as a teenager to pursue a career in acting. After getting small parts in films such as 'The Way We Were' and '40 Carats,' True turned to pornography and became a leading lady in the industry, appearing in movies like 'Deep Throat Part II' and 'Lady on the Couch.'
Her singing career was launched thanks to a few twists of fate. After shooting a commercial in Jamaica in 1975, True was unable to leave the island with the money she had earned, thanks to the country's rampant political instability. Rather than fork over her pay, True enlisted a record producer to help her record a song so she could leave with the master tape and, in effect, keep her money. True put her vocals on the instrumental track and thus 'More More More' was born.
The song was remixed and released in 1976, ultimately reaching No. 4 on the pop singles charts and No. 1 on the disco tracks list. True followed it up with several other singles, including 'Party Line,' 'N.Y., You Got Me Dancing' and 'What's Your Name, What's Your Number,' that were hits on the Club Play charts but failed to reach the success of 'More More More,' which is currently being used in a Honey Bunches of Oats cereal commercial.
In 1980, True released what would be her final album, 'War Machine,' and tried to return to her success in the porn industry. A problem with her vocal cords led to surgery, which ended her singing career, and she dropped out of the adult-film game after finding fewer roles. In her later years, she reportedly worked as a drug counselor and astrologer, and made occasional appearances on VH1 throwback shows and in the documentary 'Inside Deep Throat.' In 1999, 'More More More' returned to the spotlight when it was sampled for Len's hit, 'Steal My Sunshine.'
According to the funeral home, True was cremated.

Be interesting to know what her family thought of her career. I wonder if she was still close to them. Just wondering I guess.

That sexy "Herb Alpert" inspired horn is the best, too. RIP, Andrea. {>( . . . . . .

Now, her story has ended and there will be no more, no more, no more. By the way, her BEST songs were N.Y. You Got me Dancing and What's Your Name, What's Your Number. Brilliant and infectious songs which will live forever. RIP Andrea True.

November 22 2011 at 3:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAndrea spent a lot of "private time" with dozens of radio programmers in 1976 to get her song up to #4 on the pop charts...
