"The U.S. is rising up again in techno and us being there is important. I remember I used to play in New York in small clubs and now I'm playing at Pacha, I see an evolution in America," the German DJ/producer tells Spinner. "What is good for our kind of music in the U.S. is that it's growing not too fast. It's important not too merge to much with these massive US festivals and mainstreams shows. It's still early and it still has to grow and expand in a healthy way."
While the Loco Dice tour, which kicks off on Dec. 1 at TV Bar in Detroit, and wraps up at the Music Box in L.A. on Dec. 17, will happily benefit from dance music's recent surge in popularity in the U.S., it may interest fans to know that the inspiration for Desolat's Christmas sampler came from an unexpected source -- Suge Knight.
"The idea behind it [the sampler] comes from my days in hip-hop," Dice explained. "I was a huge Death Row Records fan, and they did a Death Row Christmas edition. We wanted to make this Desolat's Christmas present."
Desolat's Christmas sampler hits shelves on Dec. 12. Unfortunately, Tupac Shakur did not make the cut this year.
