Nickelback Trade Insults Via Twitter With Atlanta Braves' Peter Moylan

Embattled rock band Nickelback have found themselves in the middle of another sports controversy -- a Twitter fight with Peter Moylan, a relief pitcher for the Atlanta Braves baseball team.

Moylan threw the first high heater after attending the Foo Fighters' Dec. 2 show at AAMI Park in Melbourne, Australia, tweeting how much more he liked Dave Grohl's band than Chad Kroeger's.

"Note to @nickelback please attend a @foofighters concert. That's how's it should be done chad," he wrote.

Nickelback, who've been drinking their fair share of haterade lately on account of their unpopular football half-time shows, were quick to respond with kind words for the Foos and a baseball-savvy burn for Moylan.

"@PeterMoylan Foos are killer for sure. We're doing just fine too thanks. ? for you Pete, is watching Kimbrel better from the bench or on TV?" the band tweeted.

The "Kimbrel" Nickelback are referring to would be fellow Braves relief pitcher and 2011 National League rookie of the year, Craig Kimbrel. Kimbrel had an 8-3 won-loss record this past season and an earned run average of 1.67. While Moylan was 2-1 with a 3.24 earned run average in an injury-shortened season.

By Dec 4, cooler heads had prevailed and the opponents were chalking their bench-clearer up to spirited gamesmanship.

"There is no beef w/ @PeterMoylan. We both took shots. We didn't take it seriously. To each their own. No harm meant, all the best to him," the band tweeted.

Moylan, meanwhile, wasn't taking the whole thing too seriously.

"@Nickelback nothing like lighting a fire in the twitter world! Where would we be without s--- talking?" he wrote.

Nickelback have been experiencing mixed returns from their recent attempts to court the sports world with their agro-rock songs about drinking ('Bottoms Up') and oral sex innuendo ('Something in Your Mouth'). Fans of the NFL's Detroit Lions unsuccessfully petitioned to have Nickelback removed from the half-time ceremony of the team's big Nov. 24 Thanksgiving Day grudge match versus the Green Bay Packers (the Lions lost 27-15). And the 'Back were also the subject of another unsuccessful petition to prevent them performing at a half-time show in their hometown during the CFL's Grey Cup championship game on Nov. 28 in Vancouver.

We're taking bets to see who slags Kroeger and his pyrotechnic-loving crew next. You just know someone's going to.
