Before throat problems forced the British singer (and recent six-time Grammy nominee) to cancel her touring plans for the foreseeable future, she was taking advantage of one arena where musical artists are sanctioned, almost expected, to be as zany and ludicrous as possible.
However, Adele's tour rider isn't your typical story of rock 'n' roll hedonism. The singer has made it compulsory for any and all guests receiving complimentary tickets (whether it's from her, her label, the promoter, etc.) to give a minimum of $20 to charity. The donations will go to Sands, an organiation dedicated to "supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby and promoting research to reduce the loss of babies' lives," as detailed by the rider.
Elsewhere on her rider, she forbids "tomatoes, vinegar, chilli or citrus fruit" on her sandwiches. These sound like precautions to keep her vocal cords healthy, which, as her recent throat surgery proves, unfortunately didn't work. Who was sneaking Adele citrus fruit?!
She also requests one pack of Marlboro Light cigarettes (maybe it wasn't the citrus fruit after all) as well as two bottles of the "very best quality red wine" and a "selection of bottles of the best quality European lager beer. ie Becks, Stella Artois, Peroni, etc. North American beer is NOT acceptable."
On the other hand, while Adele is drinking the very best alcohol, her band's rider only requests "good quality red wine" and "good quality local lager," though any bottles of "Budweiser, Miller, or similar 'National' brand" are still not welcome.
More PBR for us, then.
