Known by pop culture buffs as "the death of the Woodstock era," Dec. 6 saw the Stones hiring notorious biker gang the Hell's Angels for stage security. This would prove to be a disastrous combination after one of the gang's members fatally stabbed concertgoer Meredith Hunter, a tragedy caught on film in the documentary 'Gimme Shelter.' The accused was arrested but later acquitted while the band distanced themselves from the incident. It seemed that the flower generation had truly ended.
It's been many years since the terrible tragedy, but the incident at Altamont speedway crept back into the news three times in 2008. Watch the video below to find out the surprising details of the aftermath of Altamont.

I saw Gimme Shelter for the first time back in 1977, when I was in my early teens, along with Monterey Pop I'm proud to say. Altamont was just a bad day with lots of bad vibes but blaming the Stones for all the chaos is crazy. The death of Meredith Hunter was a tragedy even though I think he would have killed Jagger onstage because he had a gun. I blame the Dead since they recommended the Angels in the first place as well as their road manager at the time Sam Cutler for what happened at Altamont Speedway back in 69.
