MTV's top ten list features stadium-house stalwarts Kaskade, Swedish House Mafia and Deadmau5, pop heroes David Guetta and Calvin Harris, up-and-comers Martin Solveig, Avicii and Afrojack, and trance titan Tiësto, yet L.A. debstep phenom Skrillex has once again seized the crown.
Explaining their decision, MTV cites his "massive re-workings" of Benny Benassi and Gary Go's 'Cinema' and Avicii's 'Le7els,' in addition to his production for Korn, newly launched record label OWSLA, and astonishing tour schedule, which included virtually every major music festival in the U.S.
"[This is] My first like, legitimate award for something," a humbled Skrillex commented, receiving his award. "Kinda crazy 'cause there's a lot of good of good EDM artists out there, man. Feels like an awesome family, and I want to thank all you guys out there. This is everyone's award, especially the people that came from my scene and grew up with me this year, it's awesome."
Coming in a close second to Skrillex is clubland's biggest star, David Guetta, whose 'Nothing but the Beat' album features collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Usher and Flo Rida, followed by Lollapalooza headliner Deadmau5, the ubiquitous Swedish House Mafia, and rumored Paris Hilton beau Afrojack, to round out the top five.
Check out the rest of the list over at MTV, and be sure to tune in to the 2012 Grammy Awards to see how Skrillex and his fellow nominees, which includes Deadmau5, Avicii, David Guetta, Afrojack and Swedish House Mafia, fare.
