Song: 'Headcage'
Sounds Like: Matias Aguayo, Fever Ray
In Their Words: "'Headcage' was sitting around collecting a bit of digital dust in between album cycles. This was shortly after the 'Penny Sparkle' album by Blonde Redhead was released, and I'd been reminded of the Subliminal Kid and Van Rivers' work. I found an e-mail address for them on their MySpace page of all places, and shot a message into the dark, asking if they would ever want to collaborate. To my surprise, they responded rather quickly, and were excited at the prospect of working together. We got to talking, and 'Headcage' seemed like a good starting point for us. I sent them my demo version, which at that time I considered the final version. Little did I know how they would change it for the better. They took my separate parts via file transfer, and reworked the song at their studio in Stockholm. About a week or two later they sent back pretty much what you hear now. They absolutely nailed it in my opinion and injected steroidal life into the drums and aural texture of the song. I'll release the original version as a B-side rarity one day and you can hear the changes for yourselves." -- Matthew Dear
