No longer able to stifle his inner crazy, Tufaro purchased a $4,600 Tiffany diamond ring and booked a flight for London. Upon arriving, the Bush fan paid a cab almost $370 U.S. to drive him to a remote location in Devon, where Bush's home is. Tufaro used satellite images and local maps in order to pinpoint the million-dollar estate.
Tufaro knocked on the door, ready to propose to the singer, but no one appeared to be home. He then smashed a window and let himself in. "I was inside for about eight minutes before I realized I had to leave. I just walked around and looked at everything. It wasn't what I expected," Tufaro told the Daily Mail, adding that the whole situation "felt like a set-up."
The 32-year-old fled the scene and hopped several fences to access a different property. Neighbors called police, who arrested Tufaro with the assistance of a helicopter.
"It was freezing cold, it was dark and I felt like I had nowhere to go," Tufaro said of his supposed ordeal. "I didn't have a clue where I was and was convinced I was going to die there, it was so bitter and cold. I've never broken the law in my life and decided to break a window pane and let myself in so I wouldn't freeze to death."
The stalker was arrested under the U.K.'s Mental Health Act and deported immediately. Tufaro was taken into FBI custody once back in the U.S. and has since been released. "I feel so connected to her. I feel so much love for her and I want to protect her," the obsessive Tufaro said from his Manhattan home.
A source close to the matter told the Daily Mail that Tufaro had been sending the 53-year-old singer love e-mails for quite some time and believed Bush was awaiting his arrival. The famed underground singer is married to guitarist Danny McIntosh, with whom she has a 13-year-old son.
