James Murphy Coffee: LCD Soundsystem's Ex-Star Percolates Back With Espresso

Being a coffee connoisseur has become all the rage among the creative set with folks like Bonnie Prince Billy and David Lynch getting their brew on. Now former LCD Soundsystem main man James Murphy wants in on the coffee craze so he's developing his own signature espresso blend.

"I make a lot of coffee," Murphy told New York Magazine's Grub Street blog. "For my birthday, my girlfriend got me a training course with the world champion. That's what I'm going to do when I get back to London."

Espresso enthusiasts will have to travel to New York to test out Murphy's exclusive blend as he's planning to distribute to just one Manhattan shop.

So how does a indie music star get into the coffee business? "[I'll] just go to a roaster who lives near me and start tweaking beans and temperatures," Murphy explained. "I thought it would be fun."

Those lucky enough to catch the Sundance screening of 'Shut Up and Play the Hits,' the concert flick about LCD Soundsystem's farewell show at Madison Square Garden, should have seen this coming as the at-home footage of Murphy features the musician huddled by his espresso machine.

Clearly, Murphy wasn't joking when he told Stephen Colbert, "I like to make coffee."
