Ellen's Dance Dare: Toronto Viral Star Phil Villeneuve Shows Off His Moves
- Posted on Feb 4th 2012 2:00PM by Joshua Ostroff
Phil Villeneuve is something of a viral legend around Toronto for plugging in his iPod and filming himself dancing to pop songs in public places, from grocery stores to subways to royal museums. His jaw-dropping routine to Robyn's 'Fembot' at Toronto's Eaton Centre mall got tweeted by the Swedish pop start herself and Ke$ha even makes a personal appearance in a clip from last year, emerging from her tour bus to toss a champagne flute of glitter at Phil as 'Blow' blasts away on the soundtrack.
So if Villeneuve seems a little more professional than the other folks who took up Ellen's Dance Dare, well this is why. Basically, Ellen Degeneres dared people to dance behind other people without them knowing it and film the results.
"I like dancing and I like people," Villeneuve writes on his YouTube video, "so I thought, why not?!"
For his 'Ellen' entry, he danced to the Alexandre Louvré Edit of 'Get Down on It' and includes three minutes of him dancing behind people in an astounding array of places, from food fairs to ping-pong bars to bus stops and book stores. He gets down behind buskers and reporters, seniors and statues. Its brilliant from elevator start to escalator finish.
Villeneuve even ends with a bold "See you in L.A. Ellen," but if he doesn't win this thing we're gonna take to the streets... and dance!
