Super Bowl Commercials: The Best Music From the Mediocre Ads

This year's crop of Super Bowl commercials was pretty crappy, but we do have to hand it to the people who picked the tunes. Echo and the Bunnymen, James Brown, Ray Charles, Kanye West, Fun, the Animals? That's a hell of playlist right there. Now that our food coma has worn off, we went ahead and picked our favorite commercials of the evening, based on the musical choices alone. What were your favorites?

Volkswagen -- James Brown, 'Get Up Offa That Thing'

Any dog that digs the Godfather of Soul is a dog we can hang with, allergies be damned.


Probably the most surprising song use of all the commercials. And that's the only nice thing we have to say about this clunker.


Nobody thought putting Vince Neil, who was once convicted of vehicular manslaughter, in a car commercial was a bad idea? Really?


Here, the NFL pats itself on the back for its improved safety practices, conveniently leaving out that pesky concussion issue. At least the Ray Charles soundtrack gives this spot a 'Remember the Titans' vibe.


Tiny bulldog racing? We'd be at the track every weekend.


So, OK Go appear in this ad but Chevy opts to use another band's song. That makes sense. Yeah.


The 6.0 alcohol by volume in this new brew provides a convenient excuse if you ever find yourself rushing a stage during an awards show.
