Jack White, 'Machine Gun Silhouette': Former White Stripe Rocks With Fiddles

You can take the boy out of the White Stripes, but you can't, well, you know the rest. Last month, Jack White unveiled his debut solo single, 'Love Interruption,' and while it was a lovely tune -- all sunny organ and whimsical clarinet -- the B-side, 'Machine Gun Silhouette,' packs a bit more firepower, proving ol' Jack hasn't forgotten how to rock.

The 7-inch vinyl record containing both songs dropped today via White's Third Man label, and it didn't take long for 'Machine Gun' to surface on YouTube. The tune opens with fiddle and heavy guitar, and after the piano comes in, White presides over a country-fried rocker, boogying in a style not far removed from the Stripes' twangier fare.

White's solo debut, 'Blunderbuss,' arrives April 23, and while 'Machine Gun Silhouette' won't be on the album, it does bode well for a diverse collection of songs. We're all for artistic growth and excursions into old-timey song-and-dance music, but it's hard to look cool doing air clarinet.
