Adele on Her Father: 'If I Ever See Him I Will Spit in His Face'

Adele, who has reached dizzying heights of success, can attest to this well. According to the singer, her estranged father, Mark Evans, ruined any chance of rebuilding a relationship with her when he sold his life story to The Sun last year.
"There's consequences other than just getting a bit of f---ing money that lasts you half a year," Adele told Vogue magazine. "It blows my mind. 'I love her so much.' Really? Why are you telling me that through a newspaper? If I ever see him I will spit in his face."
Adele's father detailed his split with her mother, admitted to having a serious alcohol problem and discussed his distanced relationship with his daughter. Evans also took responsibility for shaping his daughter's musical taste, despite the fact he'd "never been to one of her shows or even listened to her music very much."
"I'd lie on the sofa all night cradling Adele in my arms and listening to my favourite music -- Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Bob Dylan and Nina Simone," he claimed. "Night after night I'd play those records. I'm certain that is what shaped Adele's music.
"I was actually ready to start trying to have a relationship with him," Adele remarked. "He's f---ing blown it. He will never hear from me again. Because there is nothing that would upset me more than my dad being bribed by the press. It's like, 'Just let them run it, then. Don't you give them ammunition'."

After watching her on 60 Minutes, I was so impressed how "real", modest, and humble she was -- like her music, she was genuine. Then I read this quote "...spit in father's face." Now I wonder, is there a litle b**ch in every super star? What ever happened to honor your father and mother?

February 19 2012 at 9:05 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI am a 53 year old woman, and I understand where Adele is coming from - even though I would not have said the "F" word.
I state my age simply to say that abandonment is something you never forget. My father and mother separated when I was five and my sister was three. My father was a great drummer (he played on numerous albums with an uncle of mine who was inducted in the Music Hall of Fame in the 90's). Influenced by the memory of him, as an adult, I sang professionally for some time. Even now, I sometimes wonder why he "chose" to not be a part of my life. Just because he and my mother separated did not mean that he had to stay away (abandon) me and my sister! I wonder how some can NOT love something that they created/that is a part of them?
Well, maybe all is for the best as he could have "stayed" around and physically/emotionally/mentally abused us - which would have been far worse than him simply not being there. Damned Deadbeat!
I agree with Adele. Sometimes "family" can go too far that one last time & it's toxic to keep hoping, forgiving, & keep thinking about them. Having that weigh on your mind, & even second guessing if you could have done more. There are times when you need to cut ties to keep sane & able to move on with the next step in your life.

I do agree there are certain people in everyone's life they need to distance themselves from, and your father MAY be that person. But spitting is so Bobby Brown. Yell at him, slap him or just never answer his calls, but if you spit he'll have something else to take to the tabloids.

February 19 2012 at 7:46 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe number one song in American last year by Cee lo green was called Fk You and people are worried because Adele uses the f word in an interview when getting pissed off about what her father has done in her life. Get real. Just shows she emotional and emotion is a great trait to have as a singer.
February 19 2012 at 7:35 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyGood for her. Her dad could have been a total dick to her. She should spit in his face. Respect your parents only if they deserve it not just because they felt the need to breed.
