Gorillaz 'DoYaThing': Andre 3000 and James Murphy Team With Cartoon Band for Converse

In the 2000s, no one did more to get uptight indie dudes dancing than Gorillaz, Outkast and LCD Soundsystem. So when news broke earlier this month that Andre 3000 and James Murphy would record a song with Damon Albarn's cartoon band, it seemed promising, even if it was meant to promote a new line of Chuck Taylors designed by Gorillaz co-creator Jaime Hewlett.

The song, 'DoYaThing,' will be available for download tomorrow (Feb. 23) on the Converse website, but a radio rip is up now at ListenBeforeYouBuy.net. The verdict: It's not quite 'Hey Ya,' 'Losing My Edge' or 'Feel Good, Inc.,' but the tune does all involved parties proud.

"I'm a pale imitator of a boy in the sky, with a cap on his head and a knot in his tie," Albarn sings at the start, nasal as ever atop a brisk electro-pop beat.

Then Murphy comes in and drops a falsetto chorus: "You want to do it, but you don't know what you're doing, baby."

Andre carries the tune's second half, singing a few bars and then motor-mouthing a characteristically stellar rap that culminates with, "Do you damn thang, do you thang-a-thang."

It's just dandy for dancing, whether you're rocking Hewlett's limited-edition camouflage Chucks or that ratty pair you've been wearing since the last time one of these three acts tricked you out on the floor.
