According to CTV News, the iconic Canadian rockers have been awarded a block of Barrack Street near the K-Rock Centre Arena in their hometown.
Although Kingston city councilor Brian Reitzel came up with the idea last year, fellow councilor Jim Neill argued against it, saying the band was "deafeningly silent on the whole process." There were also concerns that renaming the street would take away from the Canadian city's rich military history.
But those concerns were apparently no match for hometown pride in the Hip as plans for Tragically Hip Way are underway, as is the creation of a Walk of Fame to honour the longtime rockers and other heroes from the community. The band have already been inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto.
Though leader Gord Downie and co. have yet to comment on Tragically Hip Way, they have been tweeting about band business, hinting at new records or perhaps a summer tour. "This is 'one of those' heads up to get you excited and signing up for the email list – stuff is about to happen..." they wrote Tuesday.
The Tragically Hip released their last studio album, 'We Are the Same,' in 2009 but toured last summer, performing new material.
