His manager, Linda Knipe, says the Cambria resident died on Saturday at a care home in Morro Bay from kidney failure and complications of a stroke.
During a career that spanned nearly seven decades, Holloway's versatility and driving swing style kept him much in demand. He performed with legends such as Billie Holiday, B.B. King, Lionel Hampton and Aretha Franklin.
He played for jazz fans around the world and performed in Europe as late as last October.

I'm coming to the certain conclusion that our digestive systems eventually just becomes inoperative and we die. Time brings this kind of a death to so many people. It's old age. We eventually just shut down.

Audio & video recording are great, but nothing can replace the feeling of being at a live show when it's happening. Sometimes it's just the way a certain phrase in one song will rip your heart out, & sometimes you might only hear a couple three notes to just "know" it's gonna be a killer nite. I belive, if you open your mind & your heart, an not be too hip to dig, this sh*t will fill your soul...Big Love from FunkyTown, y'all.
