The first was lead single 'We Take Care of Our Own,' announced by a visibly pumped Fallon who asked the crowd "Can you feel it?!" Springsteen led the E Street Band through a cathartic rendition of the protest song. When Bruce Springsteen thinks something is wrong with America, well, y'all better listen up.
The second tune, album title track 'Wrecking Ball,' was originally written for the closing of Giants Stadium and is accordingly anthemic. It even prompted an audience wide clap-along while Springsteen whooped and hollered like only he can. While the band has obviously lost something irreplaceable in Clarence Clemons, it was small restitution that they were rejoined by drummer Max Weinberg.
Springsteen will return to the show on Friday to play another pair of songs and sit down for an interview.
